Oral Surgery at Dublin’s Leading Dental Clinic
Portobello Dental undertakes a variety of surgeries to help keep your dental health at its peak
Oral surgery covers a wide range of in-depth treatments needed to fix certain issues in the mouth.
This can include decayed tooth extractions, impacted wisdom teeth removal, implants being added to the jawbone and repairs to damaged teeth if there has been an impact to them.
We’ll always aim to provide restorative and preventative dental care to keep your original set of teeth if possible, but if there’s nothing more that can be done, and we need to perform dental surgery, we’ll explain the process, what you can expect, and what to do after the operation.
Treatment for Impacted Wisdom Teeth
If you suspect you have an impacted wisdom tooth and have some pain or inflammation in the area, you may get some relief from over-the-counter pain medication, before you visit your dentist to find out what’s going on.
If your dentist confirms you have an impacted wisdom tooth, they will likely recommend an extraction so the problem is solved and there’s no possibility of further issues such as this, arising. In many cases, we may recommend you see an Oral Surgeon if an extraction is deemed more complex.
In our clinic, Dr Maeve Cooney is our Oral Surgeon and if you are referred to see her, she will talk you through the surgery process and give you options on anaesthetic; she will also give you details should you wish to have the treatment carried out under IV sedation.
To help prevent impacted wisdom teeth and the problems they cause, it’s beneficial to have regular examinations with your dentist so that they can see wisdom teeth developing and take any necessary action before they cause problems.
Wisdom teeth removal
Wisdom teeth can occasionally grow in awkward parts of the jaw, causing damage to adjacent teeth. Although healthy, these teeth need to be removed as they can cause crowding of the teeth, misalignment, cracks, and infections as gums are shifted around.
Removing wisdom teeth can be a little bit more difficult and time-consuming than other smaller teeth, due to the number of roots, the awkward placement right at the back of the mouth, and any inconsistencies in the tooth structure (such as hooked roots). During your check ups with us, we’ll keep an eye on what your wisdom teeth are doing, making sure that they won’t cause any difficulties with the rest of your teeth, and making plans for minimising this damage if they will in future.
What People Are Saying
It must be the best dental clinic in the country.
It’s at least the best I’ve ever visited. Got a Crown done, it was made in the clinic they use the most advanced technology I’ve ever seen.
From 3D scanners and programs to a mill that just makes the tooth in like 10 minutes. The staff are extremely friendly and ready to help answer any questions that you might have.
Honestly I’d give more stars but they only let me do 5.
I felt really looked after in all my dealings with this clinic, they’ve really gone above and beyond to provide the best care and clearest information. I especially appreciated the way Anne-Marie, the treatment co-ordinator, guided me through the process.
I would recommend the Portobello Dental Clinic because I felt the price was reasonable, the service was excellent, all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the end result looked great.
I am so glad I found the Portobello Dental Clinic and have no hesitation in recommending them to my family and friends. Everyone at the Portobello clinic is professional and friendly and the follow up phone call after treatment, to inquire how I was feeling was much appreciated.
I recently got implants at Portobello. I am very satisfied with the results and I have confidence that if any problems do arise, that they will be dealt with. I have been going to Portobello for about nine years.
