Get To Know Our Dentists – Part 4 of 5
I was thrilled to join the Portobello Dental team in 2016. It is a pleasure to be part of a progressive, highly motivated and skilled dental team. I graduated from Cardiff University in 2009 and worked in South Wales for a year before making the move back home. Since then I have worked in private practice in Dublin and Wicklow. I enjoy working with nervous patients and putting them at ease, something we specialise at in Portobello Dental, so I completed training in Pain and Anxiety control including sedation techniques with the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry in London in 2014. More recently this year I completed further training in this area with the Yorkshire Sedation Training group.
I also have a keen interest in Orthodontics and I am currently undertaking a Masters in Orthodontics with Warwick University and provide orthodontic treatment to both adults and teenagers in private practice. This year I also completed training in the Invisalign system and have become a certified Invisalign provider which I am very excited about. I really enjoy providing orthodontic treatment and seeing a patient’s reaction the day their braces come off, will never get old. It is extremely rewarding to see their new smile.
I am a member of the Irish Dental Association and maintain a consistently high level of continuous professional education. We have regular clinical team meetings in Portobello Dental Clinic to discuss cases and new developments in various aspects of dentistry and I really enjoy these interactions. It is great to have dentists who I highly respect available to provide second opinions on particular cases to ensure we are consistently providing the highest possible standard of care to our patients.
Portobello Dental is also somewhat of a family affair where I am concerned as my husband Dr. Edward Madeley has worked as a dentist in the clinic since 2010 and he more recently completed his speciality training and is now our Periodontal Specialist (Gum disease, gum surgery and Implant specialist). Ed is from Wales and we met in the first month of our undergraduate training in Cardiff.
When I am not in work most of my time recently is taken up by running around after our 15 month old son Ned. We love the outdoors and like Dr. Daisy McCarthy I enjoy swimming in the sea all year round. We spend a lot of time in Donegal where my Dad is from. I love the west and the wild weather that goes with it. Myself and my sisters grew up surfing due to my Dads mild obsession with the sport! I also love golfing but unfortunately this has taken a back seat since Ned came along! Myself and Ed are also both avid rugby supporters which makes the six nations an interesting affair in our house every year!!
