Hello to all the parents and kids out there on their second week of home school!
I know that you all must be missing your friends and teachers and normal activities (like coming to the dentist for your check up ?) and that life is very different right now.
So I wanted to give you some ideas for activities and games that maybe your parent/guardian could show you. To help you keep your teeth strong and your smiles beautiful for when you do go back to school.
First of all, Sesame Street has a game for you to help a monster brush his teeth, I have just tried it and it takes a lot of work, as much as brushing your own teeth should. Give it a try and see how you get on.
For older children, you could learn a lot from this website which tells you about why healthy teeth are important and what people used to use long ago to brush their teeth before toothpaste was invented. Why not make this a quiz? Write down what you think the answers are, before you look at the website, it might surprise you!
A really good way to check to see if you are brushing your teeth correctly is to use Disclosing Tablets. They stain your teeth pink or purple where the plaque is and where you haven’t cleaned well enough. These two youtube videos show you other children using them and being very surprised where they forgot to brush. Maybe you could have a game with your family to see who brushes best and has the least amount of staining on their teeth?!
Finally, I know it’s hard not to be snacking all the time when we’re at home but we must still be careful not to have sugary or acidic foods or drinks between our meals, so that you don’t have to come to the dentist too much when this current time at home is all over.
I have linked some excellent healthy snack ideas that I found on Jamie Oliver’s website but of course there are lots of other websites and recipe books to take inspiration from. This could be a great time to try making some delicious bread with the kids (or baking dessert to have after meals), it would be fun and delicious. I’m going to try some recipes as well so I can’t wait to hear how you get on!
Wishing all the best at this time, and can’t wait to see all my wonderful little patients when all of this is behind us. Be good for Mum and Dad or whoever is looking after you ☺️
